Federal minister Annette Schavan announced the winners of the second round in the top-level  cluster-competition of Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) - in a press conference in Berlin on 26 January 2010: one of the awarded winners is Europe's largest software cluster "Software-Innovationen fuer das digitale Unternehmen", which Insiders Technologies belongs to.

With the award of the cluster "Software-Innovationen fuer das digital Unternehmen", the BMBF appreciates and advances the efficiency of the Europe's leading software cluster and particularly rewards the innovative strength, the high potential of development and the enormous creative engagement of the cooperation partners in economy and science. Werner Weiss, CEO of Insiders Technologies, said at the announcement of the winners: "Insiders Technologies' claim of technical leadership in the field of intelligent document processing is impressively demonstrated by this award. Ultimately our customers benefit, because we can realise our innovative strength in customer-oriented products and solutions. In this aspect the award for the cluster is a confirmation of our successful path and a challenge for the future at the same time."

The top-level cluster "Software-Innovationen fuer das digitale Unternehmen" is known as the "Silicon Valley" of Europe and includes the regions Kaiserslautern, Saarbrucken, Darmstadt, Karlsruhe and Walldorf. Along with Insiders Technologies, large German companies like SAP AG, IDS Scheer AG and Software AG are represented as well as the leading research establishments of computer science as for example German Research Centre of Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE) or Research Centre for Computer Science (FZI) and also the renowned faculties of computer science at the Technical Universities in Kaiserslautern, Darmstadt and Saarbrucken.

In the promoted projects the cluster (management, networking, international presence, education and advanced training, recovery) and also the technological and methodical research and development of software solutions for modern, global companies should be driven forward. The innovative step results from the execution in solutions of emergent software which is classified as the key of innovation and as the technological base for the high complex standards to the business case of digital companies.

Software Cluster "Software-Innovationen fuer das digitale Unternehmen"

Objectives: Digital companies work in extremely flexible Internet-based corporate networks and align their business models and processes dynamically. All data concerning processes, facilities and resources of the real company are available at all times and in all areas for planning, controlling and optimization activities. The objective of the software-cluster is to enable normal companies the transformation into completely digital companies, in which IKT forms the decisive driver for product and process innovations. Studies forecast that 430,000 new jobs will be created in the software industry in Germany by 2030. Other objectives of the software-cluster include the training of 5,000 specialists over the next 5 years, the foundation of 30 companies within the cluster's core area, and attracting leading foreign companies to settle in the cluster region. Based on current figures, at least 300 million euros will need to be invested.

Approach: The software-cluster develops concepts, technologies and business processes for emergent software within six projects - an innovative step within the corporate software sector, which is one of the most important areas of the German economy. Emergent software combines a wide range of components of different manufacturers in a dynamic and flexible manner to achieve the highly complex requirements of digital companies. The implementation of the cluster objectives demands a corporate effort of science and business sectors as well as cross-company cooperation within the software-cluster.

Region: The software-cluster includes the centres in Darmstadt, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, Saarbrucken and Walldorf.
